White Lisbon Spring Onion Seeds
Grow your own White Lisbon spring onion with Mr Fothergill's. Known for its mild flavour and crisp texture, this winter-hardy onion seed variety grows all year round in Australian gardens—so you can enjoy fresh spring onions in summer, autumn, or winter.
Whether you’re using them in a salad, on top of soups, or as a garnish, these spring onions have everything you want from a traditional spring onion: flavour, bite, and that classic green-to-white gradient. As for growing them, White Lisbon spring onions do well in pots or even window boxes if you’re short on space.
To get your spring onions off to the best possible start, grow them with our windowsill greenhouse kits or seed starter kits. Or, for an indoor garden full of flavour, why not grow them with our herb seeds and chilli seeds?
How To Grow
Sow White Lisbon spring onion seeds 1cm (1/2in) deep in rows spaced 15cm (6in) apart. Thinning is typically not required, but keeping the soil moist is essential, especially during dry weather. For best results, choose a sunny spot with well-drained soil enriched with organic matter or compost.
Spring onions grow quickly and are usually ready to harvest in around eight weeks. They’re ready to harvest when the bulbs are 2-3cm wide (1in), and the tops are still green and crisp. To harvest, gently pull the onions from the soil, taking care not to damage surrounding plants. Sow more seeds every few weeks for a continuous supply of fresh spring onions.
