When to Plant Chrysanthemum Seeds
Sow your Chrysanthemum seeds indoors in early spring, ideally around late August or early September, about eight weeks before the last frost. Starting them indoors gives your plants a head start, allowing them to establish strong roots before being planted outside. If you prefer to sow them directly outdoors, wait until after the risk of frost has passed and the soil has warmed up, usually around late spring or early summer.
How to Grow Chrysanthemum Flower Seeds
Sow Chrysanthemum seeds in trays or small pots with fine seed compost on the soil's surface, lightly covering them with a thin layer. Keep them in a warm, bright spot and keep the soil moist but not waterlogged as they grow. Once the seedlings are large enough, transplant them into a well-drained bed, border, or container after the last frost. Water regularly, feed with a general-purpose fertiliser once the plants start to bloom, and pinch back the growing tips to encourage a bushier plant. Chrysanthemums are suitable for use as cut flowers; cut them early in the morning for the longest vase life.
