When to Plant Jonquil Bulbs
For the best results, sow your Chrysanthemum seeds indoors in early spring, ideally around late August or early September, about 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost. Starting them indoors gives your plants a head start, allowing them to establish strong roots before being planted outside. If you prefer to sow them directly outdoors, wait until after the risk of frost has passed and the soil has warmed up, usually around late spring or early summer.
How to Grow Jonquil Bulbs
Plant Jonquil bulbs in well-drained soil, about 12cm (5in) deep and 10cm (4in) apart. Choose a sunny spot in your garden, or use a good-quality potting mix that drains well if you're planting in pots. Water the bulbs lightly after planting, and keep the soil moist throughout the growing season but not waterlogged. Once the bulbs have sprouted, continue to water regularly for best results. After the flowers bloom, allow the leaves to die naturally before removing them. This helps the bulbs store energy for the next season. Jonquils can remain in the ground for years, multiplying each season.
