When to Sow Cosmos Flower Seeds
When you sow your Cosmos seeds depends on where you live. In temperate areas, sow your Cosmos from July to late December. In colder regions, sow from September through to mid-summer. In tropical areas, sow them from May to October instead.
How to Grow Cosmos Plant Seeds
Sow Cosmos seeds directly into a well-drained garden bed or in pots, 5mm (1/4in) deep, and space them about 30cm (12in) apart. Cover the seeds lightly with soil and water gently to keep the soil moist. Cosmos prefer full sun and well-drained soil.
Once the seedlings are established, thin them to allow space for air circulation and growth. Cosmos thrive in warm conditions and benefit from regular watering but avoid waterlogging. To encourage more flowers, deadhead regularly and remove spent blooms. For cut flowers, harvest when the blooms are fully open, ideally in the morning when they are full of moisture, to extend their vase life.
