Purple King climbing bean seeds are wonderfully easy edibles to grow! Sow seeds 25 mm (1”) deep in dark, damp soil, spacing them 10-15 cm (4-6”) apart, allowing 50-60 cm (1.5-2′) between rows. Avoid watering for a day or two after sowing.
Ensure the danger of frost has passed and protect plants from wind. Plant in 1-3m (3-10′) rows and remove weeds regularly. Keep the roots cool—a mulch of garden compost will help considerably. Water well during dry periods. No additional fertiliser is needed, as legumes produce their own nitrogen.
Purple King is a climbing plant and will require support by way of a trellis or netting. Pinch out tips to encourage bushy growth and harvest regularly to increase yields.
