Grow your own Blue Rottnest Island Daisy Wildflower with Mr Fothergill's. Found on Rottnest Island but also in mainland Western Australia, Trachymene is easily raised for use in garden beds, containers, and native areas. A native Australian wildflower, it produces clusters of bright purple, pincushion-like flowers and can grow in all sorts of conditions and positions, although it does best in sunny spots with well-drained soil.

How to Grow
Sow Rottnest Island Daisy seeds in warm areas at any time. In frost-prone areas, wait until the danger of frost has passed before sowing. Fill pots or seed trays with moist sandy soil, wet thoroughly, and lightly compress. Australian natives often have low nutrient requirements as they are slow-growing and used to poorer soils. Sow the seeds thinly on the surface and sprinkle just enough soil to hold them in place—do not bury them. Water gently and cover with clear polythene to retain moisture until germination begins. Remove the cover once the seeds germinate.
Place the pots or trays in a warm, shaded position. Thin out the seedlings if they become overcrowded. When plants are about 5cm (2in) high, transplant them to a sunny, well-drained spot in the garden, spacing them 20-30cm (8-12in) apart.
Water your Rottnest Island Daisies in well after transplanting, and continue to water regularly, especially during dry weather. Protect young plants from slugs and snails, as they can damage the seedlings.
