Coriander
Coriander is a versatile herb with a sharp, distinctive taste. Every part of the plant can be used, from its spicy leaves (also known as cilantro) to its earthy-tasting roots and fragrant seeds. With its slightly spicy, orange-tinted flavour, coriander seed works perfectly in savoury dishes and can also add a surprising twist to desserts - a must-have for any adventurous cook.
An annual growing up to 60cm tall, coriander seeds have a quick growth cycle, making them a great choice for those looking to grow fresh herbs year-round. Grow in a sunny spot with well-drained soil for the best results, whether outdoors or indoors.
Pair coriander seeds with tomato seeds and garlic seeds to make the perfect base for a homemade chilli or curry, or explore Mr Fothergill’s full range of vegetable seeds and herb seeds for more exciting flavours to add to your garden!
How To Grow
Sow coriander seeds 5mm (¼ in) deep in the growing position. Thin seedlings to 20cm (8 in) apart to allow for proper growth. Coriander requires a sunny position and well-drained soil to thrive. Use a good-quality potting mix and keep the soil moist to encourage healthy growth. If you are growing coriander indoors, you can sow the seeds all year round as a windowsill herb. Outdoors, ensure the soil is light, fertile, and well-drained. Water the plants regularly to keep the soil slightly damp, but avoid overwatering. Harvest when the leaves are large enough to use in cooking.
