How To Grow
In warm areas, you can sow your Kangaroo Paw seeds through summer, spring, or autumn. In areas more susceptible to frost, be sure to plant your Kangaroo Paw seedlings when the danger of frost is over. Fill pots or seed trays with moist sandy soil and compress. Sow your Kangaroo Paw seeds thinly on the surface and cover with soil mix to the thickness of the seeds.
To produce the best Kangaroo Paw seedlings, we recommend using Wildflower Seed Starter Granules for improved germination rates and speed. These granules provide chemicals normally found in bushfire smoke that stimulate Australian native seed germination.
Keep soil moist and cover to maintain humidity. Remove the cover when germination starts. Place in a warm, shady position to germinate fully. Keep the Kangaroo Paw seedlings watered and plant them out to a permanent position when about 8cm (3in) high. Water regularly around roots until established, then weekly in dry weather. Use light applications of low-phosphate, slow-release organic fertiliser for the best results. Cut plants back once they finish flowering and water the base of plants only for optimum plant health.
