Sunflower - Windowsill Tin
Each kit comes with a coloured metal pot with drainage holes and drip tray, seeds, soil pellet and plant tags with chalk board.
How To Grow
These instructions are the same as the ones you will receive in your windowsill grow kit! So if you happen to lose them just come back here!
PREPARE
To provide some drainage, place pebbles into the bottom of the tin before covering with soil. Put the Jiffy® soil pellets into a large bowl and add about 600ml of lukewarm water. After 10 minutes you will have enough soil to fill your windowsill tin. Loosen the soil with a table fork and put your new soil into the pot. Leave about 10% of the soil in the bowl to use later.
SOW
Make a small hole with the end of your finger in the soil for each the seeds. Cover with 10mm of the soil you have left in the bowl and firm gently. Water lightly and place in a warm well lit spot in your home. Water regularly just enough to keep moist. First shoots will appear in 10-14 days. When the young plants are approximately 5cm tall, thin to leave only the 3 strongest plants. This allows the sunflowers to have plenty of space to develop.
CARE
Feed with half strength liquid fertiliser every 21-28 days to promote healthy growth. Sunflowers are one of the quickest varieties to flower; you will have blooms in 8-10
weeks.
Sunflowers are a great flower for children to grow. They are vigorous and fast growing, which helps to keep children engaged as they watch the plants sprout and grow up.
Did you know?
Sunflowers follow the sun, in the morning they face the East and slowly track the sun across the sky. After dark, they reorient themselves to face the East again in the morning.
