Watermelon Sugar Baby
Grow your own Sugar Baby watermelon with Mr Fothergill’s! These fantastic watermelon seeds grow into sweet, fine-textured, round fruits with hardly any seeds. The Sugar Baby watermelon is a compact variety that is relatively quick to grow; each fruit measures only 15-20 cm (6-8”) across.
Despite its small size, the Sugar Baby watermelon still delivers that unbeatable, juicy flavour. The fruits have beautiful dark green skin, thin rind, and sweet, medium-red flesh. Grow them in a hot, sunny position, keep them well-watered, and watch them thrive. Sugar Baby can be trained to grow on a trellis, making it a good option for smaller gardens.

How To Grow
Sow your Sugar Baby watermelon seeds 12mm (1/2") deep, directly in their intended final position. Sow four or five seeds in each clump, later thinning them to the two strongest seedlings. Allow 100 cm (3’) between rows and 40-50 cm (16-20”) between clumps because even small watermelons need room to grow!
When the young plants have five or six leaves, pinch out their growing tips to encourage the growth of side shoots. This stops the plants from getting too leggy as they grow. Keep watermelons well watered, and prepare the soil well with organic material and a complete fertiliser.
