Wildflower Starter Seed Granules
Since many Australian native species have evolved to adapt to bushfires, they have developed a reliance on some of the chemicals in smoke to germinate. Convenient, effective, natural, and safe, our Wildflower Seed Starter Granules improve the germination rate and seedling strength of wildflower seeds by using smoke infused granules to mimic bushfire regeneration and break native seed dormancy for faster results.
Simply sow the flower seeds as directed on the packet and lightly apply the Wildflower Starter Seed Granules over the top before the first watering. Then, lightly water the granules to initiate germination. For seeds that require soaking in water before sowing, just add the Wildflower Starter Seed Granules to the water with the seeds.
Wildflower Seed Starter Granules are recommended for use with most wildflower seeds; they will not harm other varieties that do not require smoke treatment. In fact, smoke treatment can help produce stronger seedlings, improving their survival rate after germination. Be sure to pick some up and find more propagation accessories to help make raising seeds simple and easy!
How To Grow
Using Wildflower Seed Starter Granules
There are two methods for using the wildflower seed starter granules:
- Sowing into Soil: When sowing seeds directly into the soil, sow your seeds, then sprinkle a pinch of granules onto the soil's surface. Gently water the soil afterwards. Ongoing watering will help wash the granules into the soil.
- Stratifying/Scarifying with Water: If you are stratifying or scarifying your seeds using water, add a pinch or two of granules to the hot water. Add your seeds and allow them to soak for the suggested amount of time. Strain your seeds, saving the smoky water; sow your seeds, and use the strained water to water the seeds gently.
This packet contains an average of 5g, enough to cover a 60cm x 60cm seed-raising area. As a rough guide, there are enough granules to cover approximately 10 to 20 Jiffy® pots. We suggest using a pinch per pot, or the same amount for a cup of water when soaking. It only takes a small amount of active ingredients to start germination. Seeds have no adverse effects if you accidentally add too much seed starter.
Once opened, store unused Wildflower Seed Starter Granules in their sachet in an airtight container at room temperature.
