Can You Grow Herbs Inside?

We have already touched on our HydroGardens, which make growing indoors simple, but there are other methods for growing herbs indoors. There are several things you will need to consider when growing indoors that you may not in a traditional garden setting.

Find a well-lit spot

Before you even think about growing herbs, you’ll first need to find a suitable location for them to be able to thrive. The best place to start is a spot that will receive at least six hours of sunlight a day. A windowsill that provides a sun-facing view would be ideal; however, if you don't have a sun-facing window, then artificial UV lighting can help give the boost your herbs will need.

Watering is essential

Due to your herbs growing indoors, they will never benefit from rain, meaning you will need to be doing all of the watering yourself. Too much water can be as harmful to the plant as too little, so a balance is needed. You should be watering your herbs thoroughly every few days when the top soil is dry up to 5 cm deep. Using pots with draining holes can allow any excess water to drain away and abate any fears of overwatering.

Providing your herbs nutrients

Planting in garden beds provides your herbs with essential nutrients that can be naturally found in the soil, so you will need to provide the nutrients yourself; luckily, you can find fertilisers suitable for your plants that just need to be diluted and then applied every fortnight to a month.

Time to harvest your herbs

The best time of any gardener's journey is when they get to harvest their hard-grown produce. If you have provided ample light, water, and nutrients, then your herbs should grow nice and strong and be ready to add to any of your cooking concoctions.

To harvest them efficiently and safely, be sure to use gardening tools such as scissors or gardening snips to safely snip the plants at the leaf junctions to encourage further leaf growth.

The Best Herbs for Hydroponics

While you can grow herbs indoors without using a smart garden, planting your hydroponic seeds in a HydroGarden makes gardening super simple, with the unitcapable of watering itself and providing optimal light and the nutrients needed to grow your seeds into bountiful harvests.
